Longest-stay digital nomad visas
If you want to settle in for the long haul, these visas allow the longest stays once renewals are counted. Thailand's DTV is a 5-year multiple-entry visa (180 days per entry); Spain, Colombia, Montenegro, Malaysia and Cyprus reach 2-4 years through renewals. At the other end, Iceland (180 days), Japan and Namibia (6 months) are short and non-renewable by design. The "max stay" below is an approximation from each country's stated rules — the exact wording is on the country page.

Frequently asked questions
Which digital nomad visa lets you stay the longest?
Counting initial validity plus renewals, the longest-stay options include Albania (~5 years), Czechia (~5 years), Germany (~5 years), Portugal (~5 years), Spain (~5 years). Thailand's 5-year DTV is a multiple-entry visa (180 days per entry), while Spain, Colombia, Montenegro, Malaysia and Cyprus reach 2-4 years through renewals. Always confirm the renewal rules — some visas (Iceland, Japan, Namibia) are short and non-renewable by design.
Can a digital nomad visa lead to permanent residency?
Sometimes. Spain, Portugal, Czechia and Germany's freelance route can count toward long-term or permanent residency after about 5 years. Many others (Hungary's White Card, Iceland, most Caribbean stamps) explicitly do not lead to residency. Check the country page.
